About Us
The Department of Agricultural Sciences traces its origins back to 1872, when the Second Higher School of Agriculture of the Kingdom of Italy was established following the model of Pisa’s school. It later evolved into the Faculty of Agriculture, becoming a leading center for science, culture, and politics. Over the years, numerous scholars - both professors and students - have contributed to the advancement of knowledge and social sciences, thereby transforming the agricultural landscape. For instance, renowned scientists like F. Silvestri, A. Scacchi, O. Comes, and A. Parascandala have made significant contributions to the modern approach to the study of entomology, mineralogy, and botany. E. De Cillis and C. Santini have played prominent roles in land remediation and agricultural mechanization, while M. Rossi Doria and E. Sereni are universally recognized as the fathers of the Southern Question, owing to their economic ideas.
